Suspected broken Hard Drive

If you suspect your hard drive is broken and you still have access to your dedicated server we request you do a number of tests before submitting a ticket with our technical support department.

Providing as much detail concerning your issue or problem is key to resolving your issue or problem in a timely manner. Please do not omit any detail or error message. Remember that without the server name, we can not respond to your request.

Test Your disk

smartctl -a -d ata /dev/sda

If the server has two disks

smartctl -a -a ata /dev/sdb
fdisk -l
cat /proc/mdstat (this command is not compatible on servers running Window

Regularly scheduled backups of important data should be performed for maximum protection.

Data backups and recovery are the customer's responsibilty.
